The grant is non-competitive and assessed as received. Success depends on nominating a consultant who meets strict criteria in thermal metering, heat pump design and the NSW Energy Savings Scheme (ESS). Milestone 1 is an 8-week heat pump screening that identifies deal-breakers such as electrical capacity or space constraints early. Milestones 2 and 3 cover preliminary design and detailed feasibility over 18 weeks in total, producing an investment-grade business case covering energy savings, carbon reduction and payback periods.

$30,000 to unlock high-efficiency heating

For high-energy commercial and industrial sites, gas is an increasingly volatile liability. The NSW Government’s Heat Pump Feasibility Grant – part of the $22 million Business Decarbonisation Program – provides a pathway to move away from traditional boilers toward high-efficiency electrification.

This grant covers 75% of specialist consulting costs to ensure your transition is backed by rigorous engineering, data-driven design, and clear financial modeling.

Funding is structured to mitigate risk at every stage:

Milestone 1: Screening ($5,000 Funding Cap)
A rapid assessment to identify “deal-breakers” like electrical capacity issues or space constraints before you spend a cent on detailed engineering.
Milestone 2: Preliminary Design
Development of customised design options tailored to your site’s actual thermal load.
Milestone 3: Detailed Feasibility ($25,000 Funding Cap)
An investment-grade business case providing clear visibility on energy savings, carbon reduction, and payback periods.
Bonus: Metering Support
If data gaps are found, the grant can cover 50% of the cost for temporary or permanent metering hardware and software.

Funding cannot be used for internal project management, capital expenditure for the heat pump unit itself, or work started before the grant was awarded.

Does your site qualify?

This program is targeted at NSW’s high-gas users. To be eligible, your business must meet the following:

NSW Site: The project must be delivered at a physical business address in New South Wales.
Business Status: You must have an active ABN and be registered for GST.
Gas Consumption: Your site must use between 5,000 and 100,000 GJ of gas annually (Natural Gas, LPG, or LNG), excluding transport fuel.
Proven Documentation: You must provide energy bills no more than 2 years old as evidence of consumption.
Expert Partner: You must nominate a specialist consultant (like EnergyWise) who meets the state’s strict competency standards.

Phase 1: Application & Specialist Nomination

This grant is non-competitive and assessed as received. Success depends on nominating a consultant who meets strict criteria in thermal metering, heat pump design, and the NSW Energy Savings Scheme (ESS).

Phase 2: Milestone 1 – Heat Pump Screening (8 Weeks)

Our focus on respecting your captial and minimizing your usage means we will identify unaddressed energy efficiency measures during the study. By fixing waste, we ensure your future heat pump isn’t oversized and inefficient from day one – and not the only benefit you get from this grant.

Phase 3: Milestone 2 & 3 – Design & Detailed Feasibility (18 Weeks total)
