EnergyWise has won the prestigious category of Best Green Energy Project at the National Electrical and Communications Association Awards for its work with Ashcroft’s IGA in Orange, New South Wales.
The project delivered a 39.9% reduction in energy and annual reduction of 329,000 kg of CO2.
Working with the Ashcroft’s team, EnergyWise identified all areas of wasted energy across the store and used this data to engineer a comprehensive energy reduction solution. EnergyWise provided an end-to-end project, including design, supply, installation, project management, securing and processing Government rebates, and post-project support.
The project integrated seven energy saving technologies. This maximised the energy, cost and carbon emission reductions as well as the operating benefits.
Working closely with the suppliers and manufacturers of all of the technologies involved, EnergyWise created unique solutions such as special aisle lighting, designed and manufactured specifically to meet Ashcroft’s discerning requirements. Additionally, the voltage optimisation equipment was custom manufactured to deliver the precise optimum voltage for the store. Each technology deployed was customised and considered in this way.

The project has delivered close to $100,000 in annual cost reductions through decreased energy costs and estimated savings through less spoilage of fresh meat, fruit and vegetables and better customer experience delivered through improved visibility of stock and signage.
The project improved the efficiency of all the main electrical systems in the store, including heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, power quality, lighting, building automation, while adding a 100kW solar system.
The project was delivered on time, within budget and with zero operational or damages issues.
The systems installed are also future focused, enabling the store to easily connect to a virtual power plant in the future through its energy management system, and incorporate other new energy saving technologies as they become viable.
The significant reduction in Scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions also has prepared the store for future reporting and emission reduction requirements.
Energywise have now completed five energy-saving projects at our supermarkets and are about to start the sixth.
The Summer Street Orange project is the largest so far. They used a range of technology measures to cut our bills and energy usage at the supermarket by around 40%. Cutting carbon emissions is a huge part of our business goals.
We achieved a much better result in the quality of the lighting in the store, it was much brighter and a better colour. The other important change was that our shrinkage decreased in our fresh produce. The efficiencies that were implemented made our produce look better and stay fresher for longer. This is better for the environment in less waste. Energywise managed the project from start to finish. Once the project started, we could see our energy usage dropping as each different technology was introduced.
Energywise does all of our energy projects. We have no hesitation in recommending them for this award, they have helped us tremendously with our energy and we have found their service and values exemplary.Once the project was completed we waited 12 months before going over the findings in conjunction with our electricity broker’s data to prove that we got the savings that EnergyWise told us we would. It gives us peace of mind that we are dealing with capable and ethical people.
The results reinforced the decision to trust their knowledge with all of the different technologies and the consultative approach throughout the project from start to finish.
