Installing The Ark

Where is The Ark installed?

The Ark is connected in series with the electricity supply. For a ‘front-end’ solution, this is typically between the main breaker and the distribution panels in the main switchboard. If The Ark is being placed on specific loads, installation will occur on a distribution branch of the main switchboard or at the targeted distribution boards.

It is important to note that due to the fact that the Ark is wired in series, the current capacity of the circuit will be set to the current capacity of the selected Ark unit.

A bypass function is included to facilitate isolating the unit from the main power supply.

Is a power shutdown required for the installation of an Ark unit?

Due to the electrical connections required in the installation of an Ark unit, a power shutdown is necessary.

Customer satisfaction is a key focus of our business, so we are happy to organise for the shutdown to occur at any time that is convenient for our clients. Depending on the nature of your business, this may be in the early hours of the morning when it has the least impact on business operations. If The Ark is being installed on a distribution board, it may only be necessary to shut down the portion of the supply that is being covered by The Ark solution.

The power will usually need to be switched off for about 3-5 hours. This of course varies depending upon the size of The Ark unit and site conditions. By performing as much pre-work as possible beforehand, we are able to keep the shutdown time to a minimum.

What happens if we increase our electricity load?

As part of the site assessment we will discuss with you and your engineers/ electricians any future expansion that is being planned and factor this in to the size of The Ark unit selected. A certain amount of spare capacity is always built into the original selection.

As The Ark is wired in series, the current capacity of the circuit will be set to the current capacity of the selected Ark unit. It is therefore important that any additions to the load are monitored to ensure the load does not exceed the rating of the Ark unit installed.

It is usually possible to add load outside the circuit of The Ark, if required.

Does The Ark conflict with the interests of the electricity network operators?

The Ark simply improves the quality of the existing power distributed from the electricity grid, as it enters a commercial premise.

The main effect an Ark installation has on network operators is to reduce electricity consumption (and hence their billable revenue). However, with the wide-ranging black-outs that have occurred across Australia during recent summers, many network operators are actively encouraging energy efficiency measures and the reduction of peak demand levels, to enable their infrastructure to deal with the increasing national demand for electricity.

What is the timeframe for delivery of a unit?

If The Ark you have ordered is in stock, it will generally take about 1-2 weeks to deliver and install. Given that there are 22 different sizes of units, most orders are placed specifically for the needs of each client. The units are manufactured in Japan and it usually takes between 8 and 12 weeks from the payment of a deposit to final installation and commissioning of the unit.

Will the lower voltage level cause any problems with our existing equipmentl?

Our comprehensive power quality analysis ensures that the optimised voltage is set to within the Australian statutory level. All equipment sold in Australia is required to be able to work within this statutory voltage range.

If a client has any concerns about specific equipment, we will assess this and can generally engineer a solution to exclude the electricity circuit it is on.
